CCC6.1 Insert asset(s)
Things to be aware of
Dependent on the application and the asset type, the asset is either opened or directly placed in a predetermined location on the canvas:
In the case of InDesign, once the user has chosen quality, the thumbnail of the image will become attached to the mouse pointer, until the user clicks on the spot on the page, where it should be placed. The user can also pre-select the spot, in which the image should be placed (for example, a frame). If the goal is to replace another image already existing on the page, the user needs to click on it, and then click 'Place' or choose a specific quality to insert with.
In the case of Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, or Premiere Pro, the procedure is simpler and the user can simply click 'Place' on an asset out of the Adobe CC Connector and the asset will be placed on the canvas.
Once the asset is placed on the page/canvas, the user can continue working with it like with assets from any other source.
Single insert
An asset can be inserted in two ways:
Insert asset with ‘Place’ button
Insert asset with specified quality
Insert asset with ‘Place’ button
The ‘Place’ button will insert with the quality configured in the MM5 config manager (Creative cloud connector - Low insert quality). If this is not set or the asset does not have the specified quality, then it will default to the source.
Insert asset with specific quality
To insert an asset with a specific quality, click the ‘More options’ button and hover over ‘Insert asset’ and select the desired quality from the available possibilities.
If there is only one quality available for the asset, then the ‘Insert asset’ button will not be displayed in the ‘More options’ menu.
Multi insert
To insert multiple assets at the same time, select the assets to be inserted and click the ‘Multi insert’ button from the newly appeared multiselect menu on the top bar.
After clicking the ‘Multi insert’ button, a dialog box will be displayed, where the user can select the quality for the assets being inserted.
The list of qualities is based on the common available qualities that can be inserted for all the selected assets.
Dependent on the asset types of the selected assets, e.g. image and video, the user will have to select the quality to insert for each asset type separately.
Opening documents
On the document asset type, the ‘Place' button is replaced with the 'Open’ button. Clicking it will open the document in a new tab.
When opening a document, the system checks all the links in the opened document against the DAM. If an asset has been replaced in the DAM or is missing on the user's local storage, the system will show a notice with a prompt.
Opening old documents (InDesign)
Opening old InDesign files (INDD) in a newer InDesign version requires you to upgrade the INDD file to work with it.
Adobe enforces this; hence, it is not something we have control over.
Example - Insert from Desktop or local folder
So, let’s say you insert an INDD file made in InDesign 17 from the Desktop or a folder on your PC.
You’ll be presented with the following prompt - where the tab in InDesign will say “…[Converted]” (1):
Here, you select the InDesign document inside the prompt (2) (there will always only be one) and press Save.
Your local copy of this file will be upgraded to the newest version.
Even if you make no changes to the file, uploading your upgraded file is recommended - as this will ensure that your colleagues don’t have to do this manual step the next time.
Feel free to upgrade the INDD files; the DAM Center stores all old versions of all files that are replaced.
Example - Insert from the connector
The connector handles the conversion from a previous version (Indesign 17) to a new InDesign version (InDesign 18) automatically.
Snippets (InDesign)
You are able to insert and use InDesign snippets in the Digizuite Adobe Creative Cloud Connector.
Select the elements in your InDesign document that you want to export as an InDesign Snippet and click the “Export” button
Export the elements as InDesign Snippet (.idms)
Upload the newly created snippet and wait the upload completes.
Now you can insert the newly uploaded snippet
