MM5.7 Major New Features

Mobile Web

From version 5.7 the users can enjoy the full potential of Media Manager with its many features regardless of the screen size and the context of the usage. Media Manager is now fully responsive and the UI is responsive based on the available space.

This has two major implications:

  • Media Manager can now be fully utilized when accessed on tablets and smartphones. Nearly 100% of the functionality is available, with the design adjusted accordingly to the available width of the screen. The UI depends on the screen size and on the device’s touch capability.

  • All the Digizuite connectors have now access to Media Manager’s versatility. Just like in the previous case, the users have access to all the features available in Media Manager. This gives our users a uniform experience across the board.

Customizable asset cards

With the introduction of brand portals, the users gained the ability to display asset cards in more visual form, switching between a brand portal look and a more utilitarian look.

From version 5.7 we have introduced the ability to configure the information visible on the asset cards. From now on the users can decide which actions are featured as buttons, making the most used actions available with just one click of the mouse, and which are tucked into the ‘More’ menu. This can be configured separately for the Media Manager and the connectors for even greater flexibility.

Moreover, it is possible to replace the description of the asset on the asset card and feature any text metadata field under the title of the asset instead.

Refreshed look

We have refreshed the general look of Media Manager to be more modern, intuitive and pleasant to work with no matter which device the application is used on. This is especially relevant as the full array of functionality becomes available to users even when accessing Media Manager on their tablets and phones.

This was achieved by the following changes:

  • changing the font from Avenir to Poppins

  • new icons

  • removing the sidebar in the detail view and relocating the buttons' position to the top area.

The changes in the UI are reflected in the screenshots across the entire User Guide for Media Manager.

Further improvements to collections

We have further improved the new system of collections, introduced in version 5.6. The users can now expect the following changes:

  • We have split internal and external sharing by making all types of shares be controllable by 4 new roles. The administrator of the system have now greater flexibility in terms of control over which users can share collections through a link, an email or by inviting other users and groups to collaboration on collections.

  • The external collection sharing is now more secure. We have introduced the ability to set up a password on collections when sharing them via link or email.

For more information, please refer to MM5.7 Collections.

Improvements to asset filters

Version 5.7 brings the users several improvements in the field of finding the right assets in a quick and efficient manner. The new within the category of filters includes:

  • The feedback loop between the default filters configured by the administrator of the system and the filters visible to individual users was enhanced. Every time the list of administrator filters is changed, the new filters are visible to other users right away, without having to go through an extra step of resetting to default filters.

  • The default filters can no longer be completely removed from the list when customizing the filter list. These can only by either made visible or hidden. Thanks to this, it is easy to restore the filters deemed as most relevant when going through the customization process.

  • The ability to search both backwards and forwards when using DateTime filters. Thanks to the ability to search into the future we cover more use cases, for example when the user wants to filter for assets that will expire at a certain time.

Improvements to the metadata editor

Editing metadata is one of the most important operations that our users perform in the system, and this is why we strive to continuously improve the experience. Editing metadata has become even simpler and faster in 5.7 version thanks to the following changes:

  • The users can now choose to toggle the edit mode on a single metadata field or on an entire metadata group with just one click or tap. The pencil icon next to every field enables the edit mode on that field, but now it is also possible to select ‘Edit’ in a metadata group header to enable the edit mode for all the fields within that group. If the metadata group is collapsed, it will also be expanded to eliminate the unnecessary clicks.

  • We replaced the ‘Expand’/'Collapse' button on the headers of metadata groups with a chevron for a slicker experience, which is especially important when using Media Manager in limited space, for example on mobile devices.

For more information, please refer to MM5.7 Metadata.

Other noteworthy changes and improvements

We have also made several other miscellaneous changes to Media Manager’s appearance and functionality. These are the most important ones:

  • We have completely re-designed the experience of uploading new assets. While the methods of uploading the assets remain familiar, the access to the upload progress is now contained to the top bar and attached to the ‘Upload’ button to make the location more intuitive to find. When the assets are being uploaded, the button is replaced with a small progress bar that can be expanded to view the progress of upload of individual assets, to cancel the process, to edit metadata or to upload more assets. The upload area will be visible until the user clears the queue.
On mobile devices, the upload area is visible right under the top bar.

  • We have built on the ability to use .psd assets for more. From version 5.6 it was possible to use this asset type in a visual comparison tool. From version 5.7, it is possible to use Photoshop files/assets as covers for folders, hero banners and collections.

  • We have introduced the ability to page through detail view of multiselected assets without having to first enter the Group Edit/Multi Edit mode.

  • It is now easier to preview assets in a fullscreen mode. The user can either select ‘Fullscreen’ from the list of available actions or just click on the asset.

  • While uploading assets and handling duplicates, the first default value is always ‘Upload as a new asset’, but if the user selects a different option, it will be remembered as a new default value for subsequent detected duplicates.

  • We have continued to move configuration options from the DAM Center to the Media Manager UI. From now on, the process of configuring the content of ‘Quick asset info' box is much easier and can be accessed by selecting ‘Settings’ → ‘General settings’ → ‘Asset info’.
