MM5.6 Asset arrangement

Folders

Folder management

Assets can be organized in folders and subfolders. Tree structure of the folders can be configured in the DAM Center. From version 5.6 it is also possible to manage folders from the Media Manager UI, if the user has access brand portal edit options (see: Roles). In this case, the user can create, delete and rename folders and subfolders.

In order to manage folder from the Media Manager UI, the user needs to enter the edit mode by clicking ‘Edit page layout’ button located right under the top bar, on the right side of the page.

The page edit mode will be activated.

In the edit mode, the following actions are available to the user:

  • creating new folders and subfolder by clicking the button ‘Create folder’

  • Renaming the folders by clicking ‘More’ button on the folder and selecting ‘Rename’

  • Deleting the folders by clicking ‘More’ button on the folder and selecting ‘Delete’

  • Re-ordering the folders by clicking the left side of the folder and dragging it to the desired location.

The user can move assets to the required folders by editing the appropriate metadata field.

Folder navigation

The folders are located in two different places in Media Manager.

The first location is the top area under the top bar. Here, the user can access the contents of a folder by clicking on it. Each time the user navigates deeper into the folder structure, a new item in breadcrumb trail is created. This allows for quickly going back to the right location:

Another method of accessing folders, which allows for navigating to the right subfolder much faster, can be found under 'Assets' menu on the top bar. Hovering over a folder name reveals its subfolder. The user doesn't have to click on any of them until locating the required subfolder.

Pagination mode

The assets can be displayed in one of the two available pagination modes (configurable in the DAM Center):

  1. Paging

The user can choose how many assets are displayed on a page: 12, 50, 100, 150 or 200, by clicking the button at the bottom of the page, next to the paging bar. The paging bar allows for navigating between pages.

  2. Infinite scrolling

Infinite scrolling allows the user to scroll through the entire asset content. As the user scrolls down the page, more assets will be loaded on continuous basis.

View mode

The assets can be viewed either as a series of asset cards (boxes/grid view) or as a list with details. The user can toggle between the two possibilities by clicking this button in the upper right corner of the asset area:

Grid view/asset cards

The grid view allows to see full asset cards with an asset thumbnail as well as a number on information about the assets and actions related to it, dependent on the roles of the user.

The focus of this view mode is to give quick preview of assets and allow the user easy access to actions such as download or sharing.

List view

List view allows for easy comparison between the selected metadata as well as for sorting assets based on different criteria (for example upload date). Apart from a small thumbnail and title, it is possible to preview a number of values in columns.

The columns which appear in the asset list by default can be configured in the section found under ‘Settings’ → ‘General settings’ → ‘Asset list’. The columns can be, however, edited as needed.

The appearance of the list view is highly customizable. The following options are available to the user:

  • selecting and deselecting which columns are displayed by clicking on a triangle on any of the column headers

  • changing the column order either by dragging them to the desired place or by clicking on a triangle on a column header → ‘Organize’ → ‘Column order’ → ‘Move left’/'Move right'.

  • changing the width of individual columns by dragging the break line between the column headers

  • sorting the assets based on a specific asset property by clicking on the correct column header; the arrow will indicate the sort order which can be reversed by clicking the column header again

Sorting

The user can choose in which order the assets are displayed, based on upload date, title or metadata. The following possibilities are available:

  • Latest

  • Oldest

  • A-Z

  • Z-A

  • Configure custom order.
