DFE 2.3.0 - 2 Uploading and downloading assets

2.1 Upload

2.1.1 Upload button

Before uploading the file, regardless of the selected method, the editor should first highlight the folder in which the new assets should be placed.

In order to to activate the upload window, the editor needs to click either on the are area below the assets (marked with a blue cloud with an arrow inside) or on the "+" right under it. Once the "Upload Files" window appears, the editor needs to click on "+"/"Add files" in its top area. Now the editor can select files from desktop in the upload dialog box. The editor can then close the window, while the upload process happens in the background.

The editor receives two upload-related notifications:

  • when the upload process has been initiated,
  • when the upload process is finished and the new assets are ready to be used.

2.1.2 Drag & drop

Another method of uploading files is by simply dragging and dropping them anywhere within the the pane containing DAM for Episerver connector. While the user drags the file(s) over the application's interface, the drop area will turn grey and the prompt Drop files here to upload to '(name of the folder)' will appear in the center of the pane. After the user drops the files, the "Upload Files" window will appear, where the progress of the upload process is shown. The editor can now close the window, while the upload process continues in the background.

The editor receives two upload-related notifications just like in the first case.

2.1.3 Distributing new or existing assets to Episerver

The editor can also distribute the assets to the Episerver channel either from the DAM Center or Media Manager, by editing the correct metadata field. The editor can either upload new assets to a different channel (e.g. Media Manager) and then distribute them to Episerver or distribute the assets that have previously existed in the system.

2.2 Download

The editor can download an asset by first finding it in the DAM for Episerver tab on the right-hand assets pane, and then selecting "Download" from the context menu. The download will begin immediately.
