Breaking Changes: Going from 2.1 to CCC +5.5

Below you can learn in more detail about the changes from version 2.1 to version +5.5 and the value these changes bring the users.

From external to internal

Up until now we co-operated with an external agency in order to bring the product to our customers. While this approach had its distinct advantages, the process of developing the product, maintaining it and improving it over time took more time than we were comfortable with. Therefore, decision was made to re-take the control over the product and develop it anew in-house.

Thanks to this we have achieved the following benefits:

  • The connector is now more stable thanks to the internal control over the entire process: from the concept to the quality assurance.

  • We have full ownership over the shape of the connector and thus can be more responsive to the incoming feedback.

  • We have experts with full knowledge of the product at hand, ready to assist with the raised issues and answer the questions.

Extended support

We now support a wider palette of products within the Adobe Creative Suite:

Brand consistency

When developing the product in-house, we now have greater control over the Digizuite brand. Thanks to this we can provide our users with seamless experience when working with our Adobe connector, as the product re-uses the familiar elements of the ecosystem and therefore makes the UI consistent across the board.

As the users encounter the well-known look when opening the connector, their work with it can be more intuitive.

  • Duplicate check of assets already existing in the DAM.

  • Link Manager to easily manage all the assets linked in the active document.

  • Check in/Check out functionality to prevent multiple users from working on the same document at the same time.

  • Asset Relation enables the option to see which assets relates to a specific document when viewed in the Media Manager.

InDesign file conversion

Same as the old Creative Cloud Connector, opening old InDesign files (INDD) in a new InDesign version - youā€™re required to upgrade the INDD file to work with it.

Adobe enforces this; hence it is not something we have control over.

Example - Insert from Desktop or local folder

So, letā€™s say you insert an INDD file made in InDesign 16 from the Desktop or a folder on your PC.

Youā€™ll be presented with the following prompt - where the tab in InDesign will say ā€œā€¦[Converted]ā€ (1):

Here, you select the InDesign document inside the prompt (2) (there will always only be one), and press Save.

Now, your local copy of this file will be upgraded to the newest version.

Even if you make no changes to the file, itā€™s still recommended that you upload your upgraded file - as this will ensure that your colleagues donā€™t have to do this manual step the next time.

Feel free to upgrade the INDD files; the DAM Center stores all old versions of all files that are replaced.

Example - Insert from the connector

The connector handles the convertion from a previous version (Indesign 16) to a new InDesign version (InDesign 17) automatically.
