DFS 9.0.0 - 3 How to upload files
- Martin Ulisse
Uploading new assets to DAM for Sitecore is done directly from the Dam for Sitecore Explorer. Uploading multiple assets to DAM for Sitecore concurrently is doable. Metadata may be specified individually or for all assets at the same time, however, please note that tagging metadata correctly is a vital part of locating assets later on.
Once Begin upload is pressed, the file is uploaded, not to Sitecore, but to the Digizuite™ DAM underneath DAM for Sitecore. When the upload to the DAM is completed, the workflow engine takes over and processes the assets.
Because of this workflow process, the uploaded assets are not available immediately. Several factors have an impact on how long time it will take before the uploads are available. An example of this is video files, which require more because the processing requires more computation than the processing compared to an image.
If a PowerPoint file is uploaded, it creates one asset per slide in the PowerPoint. Thus, this also requires more computation and hence time.
Even simple things as an image may involve generating a lot of different qualities and therefore also spend more time.
To conclude, uploading is a complex process that requires time.
When the assets are uploaded to Digizuite™ DAM Center, DAM for Sitecore will pull them into Sitecore and the assets are not available before this happens.
Uploading assets to DAM for Sitecore is technically a very different process than uploading to Sitecore Media Library. Assets uploaded to DAM for Sitecore are not available instantly, because the DAM needs to process many data before the assets are ready for use.
Sitecore does not offer the same functionality and therefore uploads are ready instantly.
Tip! We suggest a work routine, where the DAM Explorer is used for uploading. When the manual upload process is done, then switch and create the content itself. By the time the content has been created, the uploads are ready in DAM for Sitecore. In this way, time is not lost waiting.
