DC 5.5 Changing videos' formats

In this documentation, it will be explained how to reconfigure a miscellaneous video format.

In the example given, the format will look better, but in turn it will also take up more space.

Step 1: Identify the quality’s format ID

To locate a quality’s format ID you can do one of two things.

  1. Locate the quality through the system’s configuration. In this way you can theorize your way to the quality’s ID. It can be that you locate it in a search, or that you locate it inside the Profiles and Destinations tab.

  2. Load a page where the quality you want to change is, and look in the network tab to locate the number.

In the resulting requests, you can locate the format id. In this case, the format ID is “10079“.

Step 2: Locate the format ID in the DAM Center

Head over to the DAM Center, and go into System Tools → Formats. In here, search in all the folders after the format ID you located in the previous step.

In our example it’s 10079 - which happens to be located inside Formats → Import.

Step 3: Reconfiguring the format

Press the format, and expand the right side pane in order to edit it.

In our example, we want the quality to resemble that of the format “1080p (HD)“ (located inside Formats → Standard → OOBE → Video).

Simply copy all the values from the other format into the format you’re configuring.

In our case the following fields were affected: Bitrate, Video bitrate, Audio bitrate, Frequency, FPS, Encoder profile, Height, Stereo.

Step 4: Rounding off

Once this is done, you need to recycle the DAM Center site’s main application pool.

Go to the IIS, and head into the “Application Pools” section. Search for your site, select the one called the same as your DAM Center’s URL.

Now every future video asset going though this process will be affected by your changes. All assets already processed will have to be re-transcoded in order for the changes to apply.
