DAM for Sitecore has a tool for cropping images. The tool will not touch the original asset. Instead, it creates a new asset, which is an edited version of the asset. It is an independent asset, but it descents from the original asset and will inherit the metadata too.

Figure 27. How to open the crop tool.
In the small toolbar in the detailed preview, you can click on the crop button (see Figure 28) and this will open the Crop tool.

Figure 28. Cropping an image.
On the left-hand size, the mouse marks the area, which is used as a new asset. Often an image is cropped to a specific aspect ratio and it looks like this:

Figure 29. Using fixed aspect ratio.
To make the new crop, push the button "Start crop". Just as with upload (see Chapter 5 for details). This triggers some automated workflows in Digizuite™ DAM and the assets are not available before the workflows are completed.

Tip! Often several images need to be cropped because a new batch of photos has arrived. We suggest a work routine, where the DAM Explorer (see Chapter 8) is used to crop all images as an independent work routine. This way, the crops will be ready in Sitecore by the time the content has been created and time will not be lost waiting.
