According to the criterion of editability, there are three types of metadata fields:
Type | Description | Illustration |

Required | The user has to edit the field. The changes cannot be saved until there is a valid value in the metafield. | |
Editable | The user can edit the metafield. | |
Read-only | The user can only view the metafield and cannot edit it. |
According to the criterion of data type, the user can encounter among others:

Text fields | The user can add information in any format. The number of available characters is limited and varies dependent on the sub-type. | |
Date fields | The user can select the date from a calendar. | |
Numeric fields | The user can only input a number with or without decimal points. | |

Checkbox fields | The user can toggle between "no" (unchecked) and "yes" (checked). | |
Tree menus | The user needs to identify the right folder. |

Note on the tree menus The tree structure is collapsed by default when entering the edit mode on a metadata field that contains it. When the user searches for a specific value within the menu, using the search box, the menu remains collapsed until there are less than 20 values left. Once that number is reached, the menu expands automatically to display the remaining values. |

When the user clicks on asset, they gain access to the asset detail view. On the left side on the screen, all the available metadata is located under ‘Metadata’ tab. Metadata is divided into metadata groups that can be expanded and collapsed individually by clicking on the header of the metadata tab.
