1 Terminologies - DAM v4.6.0

DigizuiteTM DAM Center manages all types of digital media to the extent that the system is configured to do so. The media types cover all types of files, from image files, sound and video files to zipped files, MS Office documents and Adobe projects. The amount of both file names and types are enormous. It is therefore necessary to use specific words in order to express the total description and references.

1.1 Terminologies used

  • Asset Asset is the term used for any type of file in the DigizuiteTM DAM Center; an asset could be a video, image or sound file.
  • Item An item in DAM is an element; e.g. user, asset, transcoding, destination.
  • Digizuite™ Administrator
    • A Digizuite™ administrator (or just administrator) is considered a full-scale administrator with the ability to add, delete or change any areas and functions within the Digizuite™ DAM, even those vital for the Digizuite™ to run properly. An administrator access should only be given to highly skilled and technically experienced users e.g. IT-administrators or alike.
  • Digizuite™ SuperUser
    • A Digizuite™ SuperUser (or just SuperUser) is considered an experienced user with strong technical skills. Commonly a SuperUser is a person with abilities to add, delete or change functions.
  • Digizuite User
  • A Digizuite™ User is considered a basic user with abilities to perform simple actions such as import, edit metadata, publish, export, re-organize, re-prioritize assets and/or maybe even create new users - though not necessarily limited to these particular features.
  • Metadata
    • Metadata is all the information that describes the asset. You fill in a mass of metadata when assets are imported into DigizuiteTM DAM Center. This metadata can be used internally in DigizuiteTM DAM Center, but can also be used as search criteria for bringing up assets in a connected portal.
  • Transcoding
    • The process by which a file or asset is read in the source format and written in a new format
  • Jobs
    • The term for the individual workflow process when assets are imported, exported or published.
  • DigiBatch
    • When an asset is imported into DigizuiteTM DAM Center, a workflow is activated. This workflow consists of several chains of elements that must succeed before your asset is ready to be processed and edited in the DigizuiteTM DAM Center. These jobs are running via House & Co's own workflow system, named DigiBatch. DigiBatch runs all functions for assets in the Digizuite™ DAM Center.
  • DAM
    • Digital Asset Management (DAM) is the term for managing ingesting, metadata, cataloging, archiving, searching and distributing digital assets.
  • Repository
    • Repository means the storage location for the global catalog structure. It is the storage location for all assets accessible to users
depending on rights and roles which have access to the Digizuite™ DAM Center.
  • Channels
    • The Channels area is used for everything that you want to make accessible to a specified destination, e.g. via a web portal, a screen or a mobile unit. Assets that are located in the channels area are only references to assets placed in the repository folders.
  • XML
    • XML is short for Extensible Markup Language. XML is a format which, among other things, is used to exchange information between computers.
  • Plug-in
    • A plug-in is a piece of software which functions as an extension of, or an addition to another computer program.
  • Secondary location
    • Occurs when an assets data is not placed where the Digizuite™ DAM Center would normally place it, but is in a secondary location.
