This chapter will explain in details the functionalities of Digizuite™ Video Portal.

2.1 Type of users

Each Digizuite™ DAM system instance has its own database of users that are created into the system by the DAM Center admins. Each user can have a username, password and a role/access right.

There are four types of users that can use the Video Portal: guest, member, contributor and administrator.

2.1.1 Guest

The Video Portal is available for Guest users (that are not logged-in) in a read-only mode depending on whether the videos were made available for public viewers when they were uploaded, or private for logged in users.

Guest users can search for videos, watch them and share on social network. For the ability to download, add to favorites or write a comment they will be requested to login if they have a membership credentials.

2.1.2 Member

Members are logged in members that can use the site's content but not able to change or add anything to the portal other than comments.

2.1.3 Contributor

Contributors are members who share the same functionality as viewers do, except that they can upload videos and manage their own videos.

2.1.4 Admin

Admins are super users who can act as viewers, contributors and yet be able to change the portal's settings as will be described in this document. In general, the role of each user is only a matter of access right that can be set from the DAM Center.

2.2 DigizuiteTM Video Portal interface

2.2.1 Log in

In the previous section you got familiarized with the different users that can access the system. Besides the Guest member, all the other members, are required to log in to the portal (if the Video Portal is configured to ask for login credentials). In order to do it, you will have to access the Video Portal via any of the compatible browsers.

Pressing the Log in button in the right upper corner, will open the Log in box.

  • Username – insert the username provided to you by the local administrator
  • Password – insert the password provided to you by the local administrator
  • Remember Login Info – choose between Yes or No

Once the correct information was filled in, press to sign in to the system, or to cancel the process.

Note: If the inserted Username and/or Password are incorrect, you will get and error.

Note: Depending how the system has been configured, you can change the language of the Video Portal by pressing the globe in the lower right corner.

2.2.2 DigizuiteTM Video Portal home screen

Once the Log in has been successful, you will be redirected to the home screen of the Video Portal.

This will be the main page from where you can play videos, search and access different other functions.

The portal is organized in four main areas:

2.2.2.1 Top bar

The top bar contains the logo of your company and the user's profile menu represented by the user's profile picture and name.

2.2.2.2 Menu bar

The menu bar contains six buttons that give you access to different functionalities of the portal:

Opens the menu that give you access to your own video folder as well as to the different categories.

The Home button will redirect you every time to the home screen. 

The LiveTV button gives you the possibility of broadcasting live transmissions.

The Portal admin opens the configuration panel of the portal. From there you can edit the Start screen or the Video slider.

The Upload button redirects you to the upload page. From there you have access to different video information and customization.

Adding metadata to the video files, will help you to do a much better and effective search. You also facilitate of advanced video searching.

2.2.2.3 Video Slider


In the Video Slider you can add between three to ten different videos that will automatically change between them at a certain time. You can also play the videos from the slider.

To configure the Video Slider you have to access the Portal admin console.

2.2.2.4 Videos

In the Videos section you will find all the uploaded videos. From there you have access to different functionalities like: Share, Favorite, Play and so on. You will find more information in the upcoming chapters.

2.2.3 Menu structure

The Menu button will open the Category panel.

All the videos from the Video Portal are structured in categories for a much easier and cleaner search and view.

Each category can contain another subcategory. If in the right side of the category you see the right arrow, it means the selected category is organized in one or more sub-categories.

In the Category panel, you can also visualize the favorite videos. Press on My Favorite menu point and see the clips that were favorited by you.

Further on you can play the video, download it, share it or favorite it. For a better view you can also change the way the videos are displayed as following:

Sort – will sort the videos based on first letter, date, duration, comments or favorites
View – will display the videos in three different ways: List, Tile view or Box view

2.2.4 Portal admin

In the administration panel you can configure the start screen of the Video Portal as well as the videos that are going to be part of the video slider.

Note: Only the user with admin rights will be able to access the admin's panel.

2.2.4.1 Start screen configuration

You have 2 options for the Start screen of the Video Portal. You can either insert a video that will play in a loop until you log in, which will help the marketing department with a product video for example, or you can insert a static image.

Press the button and you will open the video selector. From there select the video that will play in a loop on your start screen.

You can upload an image or video for the start screen directly from your computer. Press the button and it will open the Windows Explorer on Windows or Finder on Mac.

Once the video/image is selected press Save and log out the portal, refresh the page and you will see the selected video/image on the login screen.

2.2.4.2 Video Slides

As previously mentioned, you can add from three to ten videos that will show up in the video slider.

To configure it, access the Video Slides menu.

To add a video press the Add video button and the video selector section will be visible.

2.2.5 Upload

The Upload section is available for the Contributor user and Admin. The Video Portal offers different ways of uploading your assets.

In the Upload section you can access three different submenus:

  • Choose files – where you upload your assets
  • Task manager – where you can see the assets that are in the uploading process and edit the metadata
  • Upload history – where you can see your upload history

You can upload videos from your desktop or by connecting to one of the three cloud services: Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive.

2.2.5.1 Choose files

Desktop upload
When it comes to desktop upload you have two different options to upload your movie clips:

  • Drop files from you PC into highlighted area. Drag and drop your files and the uploading process will start right away.
  • Choose a file from your computer. Press this button and it will open up your Windows Explorer for Windows users or the Finder for Mac users.

Dropbox upload

Press Connect and a pop-up window will appear that will ask for you Dropbox account login credentials. Once you are successfully logged in, select the desired video and upload it on the Video Portal.

Google drive upload

Press Connect and a pop-up window will appear that will ask for you Google drive account login credentials. Once you are successfully logged in, select the desired video and upload it on the Video Portal.

OneDrive upload

Press Connect and a pop-up window will appear that will ask for you OneDrive account login credentials. Once you are successfully logged in, select the desired video and upload it on the Video Portal.

Note: No matter the path you choose to do the upload, you will be redirected to the Task Manager section for further metadata editing of the asset.

2.2.5.2 Task manager

The above image represents the Task manager and the interface that will help you setting up the metadata.

The first thing you will notice on the page will be the loading bars that appears immediately you start to upload a video. There are two stages:

  • When metadata is not completed – represented by the orange triangle
  • When the metadata has been completed and the system has finished to transcode the video, the video will no longer be available under Task manager

Note: the video will not be available to anyone unless you edit the metadata.

Before adding metadata you can select the language that you want to use for your asset's information (if multiple language support is enabled from the Digizuite™ DAM Center).

The metadata editor of a video is structured using multiple metafields:

  • The play button on top of the thumbnail will preview the video
  • Under the preview section you can see the length of the video and you also have to option to Delete the video if necessary

  • When you upload a video, the system will automatically generate three different thumbnails to choose from. You can select the one you want that will represent your video until future changes will be done.
  • If you press Generate new thumbnails, three new thumbnails will be generated. You can repeat the process until you find the most suggestive one for your video
  • Pressing Edit previews will give you the possibility of manually select a thumbnail from the video.


  • Drag and drop the white circles and edit your own thumbnail of the video.

  • Write a Title and a Description to your videos.

  • You can decide Who can watch this video. You can make the asset available only to some users of the Video Portal, or you can choose different groups that can access the videos. You will decide.

  • Select where you want to make the video available. Each Video Portal has its own menu structure defined by the local administrator.

Note: if you assign a video only to My videos, you will be the only one who can later on watch the video.

  • Enable other users to comment or download your videos. Click on the left box and the box will change from Yes to No.

  • Add keywords and tags to your videos. You can later on search for them based on the tags attached to your video. Select the box and start typing the desired keyword.

  • In the box you can insert your email address and once the video has been uploaded and processed you will get a notification on your inserted email.
  • Selecting the box on the right will change from No to Yes. If you select Yes, you will get a notification on your email every time you upload a video. If you select No, you will not get any email except from the current one, if you inserted your email in the first step.

  • You can view different statistics of your video (to be added)

  • The system automatically gives you a History information on the asset you are editing. It tells you when it was Uploaded and the last time it was Edited. It also show you information if the video has been Restored or not.

  • Once you upload, edit or restore the video, the system will automatically generate the URL of the video that you can further on share it.

After you are done with editing/adding metadata to the videos press Start processing from the bottom of the panel. You will immediately be redirected to the Upload History page.

2.2.5.3 Upload History

In the Upload History page you can see all the uploaded videos and the status of them.

The Figure 17, explains in details the two different statuses a video has:

  • If the orange triangle is shown in the left upper corner of the video box, it means that the video is Processing
  • If the green triangle is shown in the left upper corner of the video box, it means that the video has been Uploaded and processed.

Note: Once you submitted the upload process, you can navigate back to the home page and visualize other videos. You can check the status of the uploaded videos if you go with the mouse over the Upload button.

2.2.6 Search functionality

The Video Portal comes with a live search functionality. Every time when you start searching for a video it will automatically show you suggestions and the most relevant videos.

2.2.7 Video section

In the videos section below the slider you can find all the videos uploaded into the system, no matter if they were uploaded via a smartphone, tablet or PC. From that point you can either play the video, edit, favorite it, share it or download it.

2.2.7.1 Edit the video

Pressing the highlighted wheel will open the edit menu of the video. The edit panel is similar with the Metadata editor window. All the metadata added during the upload session can now be changed in the new opened window.

2.2.7.2 Favorite a video

You can press the highlighted heart when you find a video that you like and find it relevant for you. Pressing the heart will assign the video to the favorites one and you can later on can access them from the Menu under My favorites folder. 

2.2.7.3 Share the video

You have different channels where you can share your videos. You can send it via email or post it on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn, pressing on the corresponding buttons as it can be seen in the image above.

You can also copy the link and attach to a document for example.

Embedding the video on your website is also a functionality available in the Video Portal. You can use the Digizuite™ DAM Center's server as a streaming server for you website as well, not only for your Video Portal.

2.2.7.4 Download

The Digizuite™ DAM Center beneath the Video Portal automatically transcodes all the videos uploaded on the Video Portal. Therefore you can further download the video in different qualities, based on your needs.

2.2.8 Profile

Depending on what roles you have, you are able to change the profile picture.

On any page you will be situated on the right upper corner you will always see the name of the user logged in. If you press on it, a drop down menu will give you three possibilities to choose from:

  • Change profile picture – will open up a panel that will let you upload your own photo
  • Upload history – will redirect you to the Upload History page 
  • Log out – will log you out from the Video Portal and redirect you back to the login screen.

2.2.8.1 Change profile picture

If you do not already have a profile picture, you will have to upload one first. For doing press the Add picture.

The button will bring you the Windows Explorer if you are using a Windows machine or Finder if you are using a Mac. From there select the desired picture.

Once the picture has been added, crop it so that will fit your needs.

Once you cropped the image press the save button (highlighted area) and see the changes.

2.3 Video editing

The video player has integrated editing options that enables you to watch the video frame-by-frame, trim it or highlight different chapters of the video. Use the annotation menu to go through the annotations you made, step by step.

2.3.1 Editing tools

There are few editing options available:

  • Drawing tools that include:
    • Free drawing (pen)
    • Lines
    • Circles
    • Angles
    • Rectangles
  • Free text
  • Different colors
  • You can save the changes by pressing the Close button. Give a name to your annotation and navigate later on throughout the annotation menu to see the different highlighted sections in your video.

2.3.2 Trimming

The video editing tools offer you the possibility of highlighting the most important parts of your videos by trimming them. This way you can keep only the relevant content of the video.

Drag and drop the yellow arrows and save the changes as a new video.
