What is the channel area?
The channel area is a tree structure that controls which assets are available for which products and to which users and/or groups.
Publishing to products
Publishing in DAM Centers from version 4.7.0 and above, is different than previous versions' way of publishing.*
Info |
---|
*Unless you've updated from a version older than DAM Center 4.7.0, then the old way still applies to your system. In that case, please look at the 4.6.1 documentation in regards to publishing. |
Assets will be published when you set two specific metadata fields from either the DAM Center, the Media Manager or the DAM for Sitecore. The two fields are "Rights management" and "Availability".
Removing all entries for one or both of the metadata fields, will automatically unpublish the asset from all channels.
Rights for users and/or groups on folders (Rights management)
There are two states an asset can be published in; public and internal. The public state will make the asset available for each and everyone accessing your chosen product, while the internal state by default will be available for the users "Light user", "Content Creator", "Administrator", and "Super Administrator".
Products of which assets should be available from (Availability)
There are three products (aka. availabilities) that assets can be published to; Media Manager, Office Connector, and DAM for Sitecore. The Media Manager and DAM for Sitecore both need to be installed in order to appear as options in your "Availability" list.
Admin rights
When you have an asset that is not published to any channel folder, it will still be available to you in the Media Manager if you login with either Administrator, Super administrator or the Content Creator user that has uploaded the asset in the first place. All other users will not be able to see or edit the asset, including all other Content Creators that did not upload the asset.
When the asset is only available in the Media Manager for the previously mentioned users, the asset isn't regarded as having been published. This feature has been made, so that you'll be able to use the Media Manager as a front end, instead of using the DAM Center for publishing unpublished assets every time.
The assets that are published will have a red padlock icon in them in the Media Manager, whereas the published assets (internal and public) will have none + are shareable and downloadable.

Publishing assets is just as easy as importing and archiving asset in the Digizuite™ DAM Center. Publishing is the final step required for an asset to be publicly shared.
Note: The process of publishing assets is usually driven by metadata with the help of workflows.
In the left menu of the Digizuite™ DAM Center, you can find the Channels area. The area specifies the content that is currently being displayed outside the Digizuite™ DAM Center on an end product, e.g. a personal or corporate website, an image gallery or a standard product such as the Digizuite™ Media Manager or Microsoft Office Connector.
Each folder in the Channels menu is equal to a separate end product or destination. There is no limit to how many destinations a Digizuite™ DAM Center can be paired with.
To publish an asset, select the asset from the Catalog and place it in the folder of the desired destination using drag and-drop.
When dropped, a reference to the asset is put in the folder. This immediately initiates the export.
When publishing is complete the asset will appear inside the selected channel and will be marked with a green tick. This indicates that the published asset now is available at the desired end product.

If an asset should be available on more than one product, simply redo previous steps and publish it from the Catalog to another end product. A source asset can be published on as many products as needed.
Note: Assets placed in any of the folders available inside the Channels menu, is an asset referenced to a source asset in the catalog. When deleting a referenced asset from a folder, only the reference is deleted (and the asset is no longer publicly available). The source asset is kept safe in the catalog and asset references may be recreated as many times as needed.
Note: Deleting an asset from the Catalog area deletes the source asset along with any asset references in the Channels menu and also removes the asset from the Digizuite™ DAM Center.
That's all the required information you need to get started with the Digizuite™ DAM Center. For more advanced features such as metadata editing, creating users and user groups, and Asset Security Management, please see sections below or the Digizuite™ DAM Center Documentation.(See images below)
