Asset upload

If the user wants to take full advantage of the additional possibilities offered by Digizuite when working with the images in the Adobe CC products, it is possible to upload new assets into the DAM directly though the Adobe CC Connector.

The user can upload any assets from the local source by selecting "Upload from Disk". This will bring forth the upload dialog box. After finding and selecting the files, clicking "Open" will start the upload process in the background.

Once the upload is finished, it will result in the appropriate message at the bottom of the application with the direct link to preview the newly uploaded asset.

Asset download

The user can set up the following download options in the "Preferences" available in the menu of Adobe CC Connector:

In order to download an image from the DAM, the user needs to double-click it to access the focused asset view with quick asset information. Clicking the download icon in the upper left corner will initiate the download process.

While the download process is in progress, it will be shown in the message at the bottom of the application. Once the download is finished, the message will disappear.

Using assets

The images from the DAM displayed in the Adobe CC Connector can be used by simply clicking them and then dragging into pages in InDesign or canvas in Photoshop/Illustrator.

In case of InDesign, once the user releases the hold on the mouse pointer, the thumbnail of the image will become attached to it, until the user clicks on the spot on the page, where it should be placed.

The user can also pre-select the spot, in which the image should be placed. If the goal is to replace another image already existing on the page, the user needs to click on it, and then drag another image out of the connector. Upon letting go of it anywhere within the workspace, the old image will automatically be replaced. The same principle can be applied to predefined frames. Here the user needs to select the frame, and then repeat the previously described procedure.

In case of Photoshop and Illustrator the procedure is simpler and the user can simply drag an image out of the Adobe CC Connector and the image will be placed on the canvas after releasing hold on it. 

Once the image is placed on the page/canvas, the user can continue working with it like with assets from any other source. 

Links (InDesign only)

All the DAM assets used in InDesign documents are linked, and their overview can be seen in the "Links" panel. Up-to-date links are displayed as a blue icon attached to the image on the page.

The assets used in InDesign remain in the Digizuite DAM and will be available to other people as links, when the document is sent to them. It is therefore not necessary for the users to send their documents together with all the images used in them. The recipient needs access to the DAM, however, to gain the ability to update links and switch between high resolution and low resolution images. 

When opening a document in InDesign, the system checks all the links to the DAM. If asset has been replaced in the DAM, the system will show notice with a prompt to upgrade. The user can update the links right away ("Update Links") or choose to review the changes and update the links manually later ("Don't Update Links").

If the document contains any modified links, the blue icon next to the outdated asset will be replaced with a yellow warning triangle. To update, the user needs to click on it once. The changes in links can be also accessed in the "Links" panel. Here the user needs to double-click the warning icon to update the link.

Working with high res/low res assets (InDesign only)

In InDesign the user can switch between high resolution and low resolution when working with images embedded in the document. An asset inserted from the DAM is by default in low resolution to prevent lags caused by the use of large files. In other words, low resolution is meant to be used in work-in-progress documents.

Once the user has finished working on the document, it is advisable to switch to high resolution for the best quality for publishing and printing purposes.

In order to have the access to the selection of image quality, the user needs to add "Digizuite" column to the "Links" section. This can be done by selecting "Panel Options" from the menu in the "Link" panel.

In the new window the users needs to check both boxes next to "Digizuite" and then click "OK".

This results in the appearance of a new column marked with Digizuite logo, displayed next to the DAM assets that are embedded in the document. The screenshots below show images in "High-Res" and "Low-Res":

The user can switch between high resolution and low resolution by double-clicking on the icon.

Saving documents

In order to save InDesign/Photoshop/Illustrator document into the DAM, the user needs to first save the file locally. Failing to do so and attempting the upload will result in the following message:

After saving the document locally, the user can upload the document into the DAM by selecting "Upload InDesign/Photoshop/Illustrator Document ".

If this is a new file, the upload process will start right away. If the document was previously opened from Adobe CC Connector, the user has made changes and then wishes to upload the revised document back into the DAM, it will be possible to choose between replacing the old asset or saving it as a new asset.
