Mobile Web
...
This has two major implications:
Media Manager can now be fully utilized when accessed on tablets and smartphones. Nearly 100% of the functionality is available, with the design adjusted accordingly to the available width of the screen. The UI depends on the screen size and on the device’s touch capability.
All the Digizuite connectors have now access to Media Manager’s versatility. Just like in the previous case, the users have access to all the features available in Media Manager. This gives our users a uniform experience across the board.
For more information, please refer to MM5.7 Mobile Web.
...
Customizable asset cards
...
From version 5.7 we have introduced the ability to configure the information visible on the asset cards. From now on the users can decide which actions are featured as buttons, making the most used actions available with just one click of the mouse, and which are tucked into the ‘More’ menu. This can be configured separately for the Media Manager and the connectors for even greater flexibility.
Moreover, it is possible to replace the description of the asset on the asset card and feature any text metadata field under the title of the asset instead.
For more information, please refer to MM5.7 Asset card configuration.
...
Refreshed look
...
We have refreshed the general look of Media Manager to be more modern, intuitive and pleasant to work with no matter which device the application is used on. This is especially relevant as the full array of functionality becomes available to users even when accessing Media Manager on their tablets and phones.
This was achieved by the following changes:
changing the font from Avenir to Poppins
new icons
removing the sidebar in the detail view and relocating the buttons' position to the top area.
The changes in the UI are reflected in the screenshots across the entire User Guide for Media Manager.
...
Further improvements to collections
...
We have further improved the new system of collections, introduced in version 5.6. The users can now expect the following changes:
We have split internal and external sharing by making all types of shares be controllable by 4 new roles. The administrator of the system have now greater flexibility in terms of control over which users can share collections through a link, an email or by inviting other users and groups to collaboration on collections.
The external collection sharing is now more secure. We have introduced the ability to set up a password on collections when sharing them via link or email.
For more information, please refer to MM5.7 Collections.
Improvements to asset filters
...
Version 5.7 brings the users several improvements in the field of finding the right assets in a quick and efficient manner. The new within the category of filters includes:
The feedback loop between the default filters configured by the administrator of the system and the filters visible to individual users was enhanced. Every time the list of administrator filters is changed, the new filters are visible to other users right away, without having to go through an extra step of resetting to default filters.
The default filters can no longer be completely removed from the list when customizing the filter list. These can only by either made visible or hidden. Thanks to this, it is easy to restore the filters deemed as most relevant when going through the customization process.
The ability to search both backwards and forwards when using DateTime filters. Thanks to the ability to search into the future we cover more use cases, for example when the user wants to filter for assets that will expire at a certain time.
For more information, please refer to MM5.7 Filters and MM5.7 Filter configuration.
Improvements to the metadata editor
...
The users can now choose to toggle the edit mode on a single metadata field or on an entire metadata group with just one click or tap. The pencil icon next to every field enables the edit mode on that field, but now it is also possible to select ‘Edit’ in a metadata group header to enable the edit mode for all the fields within that group. If the metadata group is collapsed, it will also be expanded to eliminate the unnecessary clicks.
We replaced the ‘Expand’/'Collapse' button on the headers of metadata groups with a chevron for a slicker experience, which is especially important when using Media Manager in limited space, for example on mobile devices.
For more information, please refer to MM5.7 Metadata.
Other noteworthy changes and improvements
...
We have also made several other miscellaneous changes to Media Manager’s appearance and functionality. These are the most important ones:
We have completely re-designed the experience of uploading new assets. While the methods of uploading the assets remain familiar, the access to the upload progress is now contained to the top bar and attached to the ‘Upload’ button to make the location more intuitive to find. When the assets are being uploaded, the button is replaced with a small progress bar that can be expanded to view the progress of upload of individual assets, to cancel the process, to edit metadata or to upload more assets. The upload area will be visible until the user clears the queue.
On mobile devices, the upload area is visible right under the top bar.We have built on the ability to use .psd assets for more. From version 5.6 it was possible to use this asset type in a visual comparison tool. From version 5.7, it is possible to use Photoshop files/assets as covers for folders, hero banners and collections.
We have introduced the ability to page through detail view of multiselected assets without having to first enter the Group Edit/Multi Edit mode.
It is now easier to preview assets in a fullscreen mode. The user can either select ‘Fullscreen’ from the list of available actions or just click on the asset.
While uploading assets and handling duplicates, the first default value is always ‘Upload as a new asset’, but if the user selects a different option, it will be remembered as a new default value for subsequent detected duplicates.
We have continued to move configuration options from the DAM Center to the Media Manager UI. From now on, the process of configuring the content of ‘Quick asset info' box is much easier and can be accessed by selecting ‘Settings’ → ‘General settings’ → ‘Asset info’.

Media Manager 5.8.0
Accessibility
...
The Digizuite team has begun a journey towards greater accessibility of Media Manager and related products. We have selected to base the changes on Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, created by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines are acknowledged worldwide and are the foundations for the major local accessibility frameworks.
Our ultimate goal is to become compliant with the WCAG 2.1, conformance level ‘AA’, and in version 5.8 we have made a significant progress towards achieving that goal.
We have created a brand new Design Guide that takes into consideration the abovementioned guidelines. The Guide defines every design element in the system such as buttons, lists, spacing between elements and colors. Throughout the process of implementation of the new principles, Media Manager was regularly tested with the recommended tools for checking the accessibility of the application with great results.
...
Some of the focus areas include:
headings: we have added semantic tags, wherever it was possible
keyboard focus: Media Manager can be navigated by using keyboard only
color contrast: we have removed customs color from most components as well as adjusted our greyscale tones to fit the accessibility guidelines
spacing: we have applied an appropriate spacing for for every single component, which is especially important for small components such as buttons and checkboxes.
The users will immediately notice significant design UI changes to the different areas of the Media Manager such as:
top bar
menu navigation
filter panel
filter chips
pagination
tabs
asset card
breadcrumbs
task page
lists
notification dialogs
folders
metadata editor.
Configuration moved to Media Manager UI
As part of our journey towards the goal of unified UI, we have moved large parts of the configuration from the DAM Center to the Media Manager UI.
...
The following sections are now available in Media Manager’s settings under ‘Settings’ → ‘Portal config manager’:
ConfigManager is now available under the tab ‘Configuration’
Label configuration is now available under the tab ‘Labels’; label configuration has simultaneously become much faster and more intuitive.
Administration of the cropping presets is now available under the tab ‘Crop presets’
Administration of templates is now available under the tabs ‘Mail templates’ and ‘HTML templates’.
The changes mean that the administrators of the systems can now change labels, add new cropping presets, administer AI functionality, enable or disable out many customizations to features, create new templates and much more without ever leaving Media Manager.
Other improvements
New login button
...
We have re-designed the top bar to make the process of logging in to the system more intuitive. When the user is not logged in, there is now a large ‘Log in’ button, language selector as well as ‘About’ button located on the right side of the top bar.
Changing the password
When the user changes the password to the system in the profile administration, there is now a dialog shown to confirm the successful change.
Changes to the list view
...
It is now possible to fully control the width of the columns in the asset list view. Thanks to this the users can, for example, see the entire asset titles, even the very long ones.
User preferences
...
User can now perform a factory rest on their custom preference from their profile page. This will reset: filters, sorting, the default view mode, metadata editor width, pinned metadata fields and auto-expanding of metadata groups.
Collection sharing
When a user receives an invitation to a collection via email, they will be prompted to log in upon clicking the share link.
Deleting workflow tasks
...
The users can now multiselect and delete workflow tasks on the task page. Until version 5.7 it was only possible to delete 1 workflow tasks at a time.
Related assets
...
The users gain the ability to customize what information is shown for assets in the ‘Related assets’ tab, just like it was possible to do for a standard asset list.
Media Manager 5.8.1
Advanced search
...
In version 5.8.1 we have added much more flexibility when searching for the right assets by introducing an advanced search functionality. Advanced search is a powerful tool that through a variety of queries allows the user to narrow down the search results much more precisely than just when using an ordinary free-text search functionality.
Advanced search can be used either as part of free-text search as a way to further narrow down the results or independently of it, i.e. no keywords are needed to run it.
Each new line of a query consists of 3 elements:
metafield: select one of the metadata fields existing in the system to be the basis of the query
operant: dependent on the metadata field type
value: the filter which decides the search results.
As an example, the user could search for assets which do not contain a particular keyword and then further narrow down the results by specifying that another specific metadata field must be empty.
Sorting in filter values
...
The work with filters that contain many values has been simplified by re-introducing the ability to sort the values within a filter in two ways:
by usage: the most commonly used values appear at the top of the list
alphabetically: the values appear from A to Z.
Manual selection of thumbnails for video assets
...
The users have now a greater freedom when selecting how video assets are represented on the homepage. Apart from the ability to generate a new set of random thumbnails and selecting one of them, the users now have another option. By clicking on ‘Specific frame’ tab in the thumbnail selector, the users can select any frame from the video manually and save it as the new thumbnail for this video asset.
